Is it right for you?
Yes, if you want full 40Gbps USB4 transfer speeds, native 8K HDMI display output, and 81W laptop charging in a compact desktop hub.
Probably not, if you need built-in Ethernet, SD card slots, or dual HDMI ports (choose the OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dual HDMI Dock instead).
Using it
Connection. Plug the included 100W power supply into the DC IN port and wall outlet, then connect the 0.8-metre USB4 cable between the hub host port and your laptop.
Display setup. Plug your primary monitor directly into the HDMI 2.1 port using a standard HDMI cable. A second monitor can be connected to either downstream USB4 port via USB-C or DisplayPort Alt Mode.
Apple SuperDrive support. Download the free OWC Dock Ejector app to enable optional macOS driver support for Apple USB SuperDrive, full legacy iPad charging, and one-click safe drive unmounting.
Warranty
OWC gives a 2-year limited warranty from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship. Normal wear and tear, cosmetic damage (including scratches and cracks), accidental damage and misuse are not covered.
Questions
- Does this hub work with laptops that don't have Thunderbolt?
- Yes. The hub runs at full 40Gbps USB4 speed on any USB4-equipped laptop and is backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3, 4, 5, and standard USB-C hosts.
- Can I connect a monitor without an adapter?
- Yes. The built-in HDMI 2.1 port connects directly to HDMI monitors, TVs, or projectors with a standard HDMI cable.
- How does bandwidth work across the two USB4 ports?
- The hub provides 40Gbps total downstream bandwidth across both USB4 ports with up to 20Gbps allocated to each port, easily running two fast external SSDs at once. For maximum single-drive performance, connect directly to the host.
- How much charging power does it supply to my laptop?
- The host port provides up to 81W of Power Delivery via the included 100W power supply, dynamically allocated based on the accessories connected to the four 15W downstream ports.
- Does it work with an Apple USB SuperDrive?
- Yes. Installing the free OWC Dock Ejector software includes the optional macOS driver required to power and run Apple SuperDrives through the hub.
- Is it compatible with iPad Pro?
